Here is our weekly guest article from the fantastic Paul Hess of Primal Rejuvenation sharing his expertise in areas, I simply cant! Enjoy.
I’m amazed at how many young people have anxiety, depression, ADD, and OCD. These problems are much more widespread than a few decades ago.
That standard treatment is medication, but medications treat the symptoms while most likely making one of the causes worse, toxicity.
The root causes of these emotional problems also can be physical: nutrition, toxicity, and a lack of good bacteria. These causes can begin in the gut. There is close connection between the brain and gut.
Bacteria In the Gut and Nutrition
Your small and large intestines are full of bacteria that help digest food and actually create vitamins like B vitamins that relieve stress and create energy, and beta carotene that is important for sleep among many other things. Proper digestion of foods is necessary to make neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine that create good feelings and emotional stability. Many people have improved depression by taking good bacteria in the form of supplemental probiotics or from fermented foods.
We are born with good bacteria that can be destroyed by use of anti-biotics. Often less healthy forms of bacteria can grow back to replace the good species. These pathogenic bacteria, fungal forms like candida, and other parasites can eat our food and create toxic by-products.
It’s worse for people who do not receive enough good bacteria from their mothers, especially if they were born with a C-section, because the vaginal birth canal provides inoculation with many species.
To present the magnitude of bacteria in our lives, we have more bacteria in our guts than cells in our bodies. There are more species of bacteria in a healthy gut, 30,000, than genes in our body that number around 25,000.
We are not alone. We are not always calling the shots in our own brains.
Infectious pathogens can manipulate appetite by stimulating nerves to create anxiety or satiety based on whether you eat the food THEY want. Sugar cravings can be partly created this way by candida fungus. There are 100 million neurons in the gut that affect the brain. The bugs can keep you anxious, stressed, and tired so you never have a strong enough immune system to fight them. See the You Tube video, Invasion of the Brain Snatchers.
It’s not the Bug, It’s the Terrain
Infections are not just a result of exposure to bugs, but result of an imbalanced body chemistry or “terrain.” If stress lowers immunity then problems can occur. For example, candida in its yeast form is part of a healthy gut, but when things are out of balance with a weak immune system, yeast can morph into the fungal form of candida. The problem of an imbalance of types of bacteria is called “dysbiosis.”
The “terrain” of the body means that it’s the entire body as a system that makes a difference for health. The terrain requires dealing with all the other possible root causes of illness: nutrition, stress, toxicity, and physical misalignments of teeth, head and spine.
Let’s look at one key part of the system that breaks down: Leaky Gut is when the intestinal wall has big holes that let through toxins and undigested food to create food allergies with toxic results. The same happens to the blood brain barrier.
Two main things that break down membrane integrity are gluten in wheat and other grains, representing about 10%, and herbicides, representing much of the rest of the 90%.
Herbicides like Round-Up are made by Monsanto are used to keep weeds down for crops like corn, soy, and wheat. All non-organic crops can assumed to be using herbicides by now. Herbicides can be so toxic to plants that new plants strains have been created--genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to tolerate herbicides. GMO’s can impose additional health problems like sterility in men. These toxins are also passed on to animals that eat the feed and then to humans.
A healthy gut has the right sized holes to allow smaller particles of digested food to make it through the lining and into the lymph (part of the immune system) and then blood stream to be delivered and eventually to tissues for nourishment. When the immune system is weak it cannot fend of toxins and bugs that create bigger holes allowing toxins to spread to the rest of the body. Toxins include undigested food that trigger allergic reactions that require further work to eliminate as they drain energy and create inflammation, including inflammation of the gut and joints.
The blood brain barrier can also be damaged like this, leading to toxins that irritate and damage brain tissue, which can cause emotional instability and fatigue.
There are many more toxins that damage all kinds of tissues in the body including the gut and brain: Pesticides and food additives, chemicals in tap water, mercury from dental fillings, mercury and especially aluminum in vaccines, electomagetic fields and radio frequencies from cell phones, wifi, computers and electrical appliances include digital clocks by your bed and lights. Health care products for skin, hair, and even in supplements have toxins.
To improve health, these environmental exposures must be reduced while giving the body extra nutrients to help detoxify.
How to Improve Your Gut Feeling
To improve anxiety, depression, and other emotional and cognitive problems it is best to consider all possible root causes and leave no stone unturned to find solutions.
